Tenerife South Airport to Costa Adeje

The road, junction by junction

The Repsol on the airport access road is about four hundred metres from the terminal, and the BP at Carretera Atogo on the TF-1 is about a kilometre and a half north of it. Both are open around the clock. Tenerife's motorways are toll-free. Fixed speed cameras operate on the TF-1, including an average-speed pair, and a fine from them is the renter's to pay.

Los Cristianos is thirty-three minutes and nineteen kilometres from the terminal. Playa de las Americas is thirty minutes and twenty kilometres. Costa Adeje, at Playa del Duque, is thirty minutes and twenty-two kilometres. From Playa de las Americas, Costa Adeje is ten minutes and four kilometres, and Los Cristianos is eleven minutes and four kilometres.

From Playa del Duque in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Americas is eight minutes and six kilometres, Los Cristianos thirteen minutes and eight kilometres, and Playa Paraiso fourteen minutes and ten kilometres. The TGAS at the La Caleta junction is the fuel station where the drive leaves the TF-1. From Costa Adeje, Los Gigantes is twenty-seven minutes and twenty-six kilometres.

Driving times from the terminal, for the southern strip: El Medano about twenty minutes, Playa de las Americas thirty, Costa Adeje thirty, Los Cristianos thirty-three, Playa Paraiso thirty-seven, Los Gigantes fifty and Masca village fifty-eight. When is the traffic bad on this road?

Fuel at either end

At the airport end there is a Repsol on the access road about four hundred metres from the terminal, open around the clock, and a BP on the TF-1 at Carretera Atogo, about a kilometre and a half north, also open around the clock. The car must be returned with the same level of fuel it was picked up with. If the level is lower, the renter pays the difference at the rental company's rates, and if it is higher, the difference is not compensated.

At the resort end, Costa Adeje has a BP at Siam Mall on Avenida Siam, open around the clock, a DISA at San Eugenio, open from 08:00 to 17:30, and a TGAS at the La Caleta junction on the TF-1. Playa de las Americas has a BP at Avenida de los Pueblos 6, open around the clock. Los Cristianos has a BP at Bulevar Chajofe 2, also open around the clock.

For parking at the airport there is one general car park, P1, open around the clock and a few metres from the terminal, with 2.2 metres of headroom on the covered spaces. In Costa Adeje, blue lines are metered bays with a time limit, unmarked white bays are free and yellow lines mean no parking. Parking charges and fines are the renter's responsibility under the rental conditions.

Is a car better than a transfer for this?

From Costa Adeje, Los Gigantes is twenty-seven minutes, Masca village twenty-nine minutes, Vilaflor twenty-nine minutes and the Parador in the Teide crater fifty-two minutes. The TF-436 to Masca is under access control from 09:00 to 16:00 while a fire-risk alert is in force. Icod de los Vinos is forty-five minutes from Costa Adeje and Garachico fifty. The minimum chargeable rental period is 24 hours: a car rented from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon is charged for two full days.

The two exits before Costa Adeje

The Los Cristianos exit serves the harbour for the ferries to La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. Fred. Olsen sails to La Gomera in about fifty minutes, and Armas also serves La Gomera. Los Cristianos is thirty-three minutes from the airport, three more than Costa Adeje. Its covered car park on Calle Valle Menendez is open around the clock with a 2.2 metre height limit.

Playa de las Americas has the widest choice of cars of any pick-up point on the island outside the two airports. From Playa de las Americas, Costa Adeje is ten minutes and four kilometres. Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje are delivery points: the car comes to the address you give in the town. At the airport, the named handover place is the arrival area. Puerto de la Cruz, on the north coast, is the only town on the island with named pick-up points.

The first hour, in order

The handover place at Tenerife South Airport is the arrival area. The contact phone number given at booking, with the correct country code, must be available throughout the rental and on the day before pick-up. Service quality claims are not accepted if the renter could not be reached by mobile phone or by messengers such as Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram.

The licence must be the card itself, a valid national licence in the main driver's name with its details in Latin script; copies and electronic licences are not accepted. The licence must not expire before the end of the rental period. A physical embossed credit card in the main driver's name may be required, and whether a debit card is accepted is stated during booking and in the voucher. The fine for not carrying an approved V-16 beacon is eighty euros, and rental fleets supply the beacon with the car. Standard insurance excludes damage to the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior.
