Car hire in Golf del Sur starts in one of two places. Golf del Sur is a pick-up point with city delivery only, so there is no rental office: the car is brought to the address you give in the resort, such as a hotel or an apartment. The other start is a handover in the airport's arrival area at Tenerife South Airport, about twenty-two minutes and seven kilometres away by road without traffic.

Golf del Sur can be chosen as a pick-up and not as a drop-off. No cars are returned one-way to or from it in either direction, so a car delivered in Golf del Sur goes back in Golf del Sur, and a one-way rental from the south airport can end at most pick-up points on the island but not this one. Each car shows the deposit, whether a credit card is required and whether delivery is included before you book. Drive times on this page are estimates that leave out traffic, so check a live map on the day.

How is the car handed over in Golf del Sur?

The car is brought to the address on the booking, inside Golf del Sur. Delivery also brings a hire car in Costa Adeje to the address on your booking. Each car's listing shows whether delivery is free and, where it is not, the delivery price, so the charge is set per car rather than per town. Golf del Sur is one of the smaller pick-up points on the island, and Tenerife South Airport has the widest choice of cars.

The documents at a delivery are the same as at the airport. The main driver needs the licence card itself, valid until the end of the rental and with its details in Latin script; copies and electronic licences are not accepted. Renting may require a physical, embossed credit card in the main driver's name. Some rental companies accept a debit card, which must also be physical, personalised, embossed and in the main driver's name. Whether a credit card is required or a debit card is accepted is specified during booking and on the voucher, and the card has to be with you when the car arrives.

The phone number given at booking, with the correct country code, must be reachable on the day before pick-up and throughout the rental. Service quality claims are not accepted if the renter could not be reached by mobile phone or by Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. The minimum age and driving experience are listed on each car's page and can differ between similar models, and the rental agent may refuse a driver who does not meet them. How the remaining rental cost is paid, how the deposit is held and how long the refund takes are shown during booking and repeated on the voucher.

Can I leave the car somewhere other than Golf del Sur?

Not if it was delivered in Golf del Sur. It is a collection-only point: the search offers it as a pick-up and leaves it out of the drop-off list, because no cars are returned one-way to or from it. The car goes back in Golf del Sur at the end of the rental, at the address you give in the resort.

Las Chafiras, about three kilometres from Golf del Sur, is one of the other pick-up points in the south, and it can be chosen as a drop-off for a car collected at Tenerife South Airport. Las Chafiras is one of the smaller one-way pairings with the airport, and any one-way charge is shown with the price on each car.

The minimum chargeable rental period is twenty-four hours, so a car needed from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon is charged as two full days. To keep the car longer than booked, inform the rental agent in advance. A car returned so dirty that it cannot be inspected is washed at the renter's expense.

Should I collect at the airport or have the car brought to Golf del Sur?

At Tenerife South Airport the car is handed over in the arrival area, the named handover place in the booking system, and there is no rental office in the terminal. The airport has the widest choice of cars on the island. Automatics are a minority of the cars listed, and they sit in the compact, crossover and SUV classes, in models such as the Toyota Yaris, Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo.

A car collected at the airport goes back to the airport, or to another point that takes one-way returns; it cannot end in Golf del Sur. The drive between the terminal and Golf del Sur is about twenty-two minutes and seven kilometres without traffic, and it includes the airport access road and the terminal approach at low speed. P1, the general car park at the terminal, is open 24 hours, with 2.2 metres of headroom on the covered spaces.

A car delivered in Golf del Sur is returned in Golf del Sur. When comparing budget car hire at Tenerife South Airport with delivery in Golf del Sur, use the same rental dates and check the delivery charge on each car.

Where do I fill up near Golf del Sur?

There is no fuel station in Golf del Sur, Amarilla Golf or Los Abrigos. The nearest cluster of stations is at Las Chafiras, about three kilometres away. At Tenerife South Airport, the Repsol on the airport access road is open 24 hours, about 400 metres from the terminal, and the BP at Carretera Atogo km 0.5, on the TF-1 about 1.5 kilometres north of the terminal, is also open 24 hours. In El Medano, the TGAS on the TF-64 at km 7.7 is open 24 hours.

The car goes back with the fuel level it had at pick-up. If the level is lower, you pay the difference at the rental company's rates; if it is higher, the difference is not compensated. Fuel during the rental is the renter's responsibility, and fuel in the Canary Islands costs less than on mainland Spain or in the UK. Most cars carry no mileage limit, and a car that has one shows it on the listing.

There is no fuel station inside Teide National Park either, so fill up at Las Chafiras or at the airport before a drive up to the crater.

How far is Golf del Sur from the rest of Tenerife?

The table lists drive times and distances from Golf del Sur, without traffic. El Medano is fifteen minutes and twelve kilometres away and is a city-delivery point too, and unlike Golf del Sur, a rental that ends in El Medano can start at the airport. The delivery point in Los Cristianos is nineteen minutes away, Playa de las Americas twenty and Costa Adeje twenty-one.

Vilaflor, the highest municipality in the Canary Islands at about 1,400 metres, is twenty-nine minutes from Golf del Sur, and the Parador in the Teide crater is fifty-two. Los Gigantes is forty-one minutes and Masca village forty-three. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is fifty minutes away, Tenerife North Airport fifty-six, Las Teresitas beach sixty-three and Puerto de la Cruz seventy-two.

The TF-436 is the only road in and out of Masca. While a fire-risk alert is declared, access control runs on it from 09:00 to 16:00, with checkpoints at Las Lagunetas and Santiago del Teide, and vehicles driven by visitors for purely recreational purposes are refused; check before setting off, and bus line 355 serves the village. Hire cars may travel only on paved public roads. Standard insurance does not cover damage to the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen or the interior, and each car lists its own cover levels, each priced separately.

Where can I park, and which road rules apply?

On the street, the Spanish colour code applies: blue lines are metered bays with a time limit, unmarked white bays are free and yellow lines mean no parking. Fines, parking, fuel and toll roads during the rental are the renter's responsibility, and Tenerife's motorways carry no tolls. Fixed speed cameras operate on the TF-1 and the TF-5, and any fine they produce is the renter's to pay.

Every hire car on the island is Spanish-registered and must carry an approved, connected V-16 beacon, which replaced warning triangles on 1 January 2026; check it is in the car at the handover. The fine for not carrying an approved beacon is eighty euros. If there is an insured event, notify the rental agent immediately and obtain a police report, unless otherwise agreed with the agent; failing to do so cancels the insurance issued for the car.
