How long is the drive from Santa Cruz to Costa Adeje?

About fifty-five minutes and seventy-nine kilometres without traffic. Tenerife South Airport is about fifty-eight minutes and sixty-six kilometres from Santa Cruz. The TF-1 motorway leaves the capital where it meets the TF-5 from the north, and runs south past Tenerife South Airport to the La Caleta and Adeje junction.

Both motorways carry fixed speed cameras, an average-speed pair among them, and fines from them are the renter's to pay along with fuel, parking and toll roads. Tenerife's motorways are toll-free. Rental cars may travel on paved public roads only.

Yes, as one rental: the car is delivered in Santa Cruz on the first day, driven down to Costa Adeje for the southern half of the stay, and returned in the arrival area at Tenerife South Airport on the last. From Costa Adeje, Tenerife South Airport is about thirty minutes and twenty-two kilometres without traffic. Near the terminal, the Repsol on the airport access road and the BP at Carretera Atogo km 0.5 on the TF-1 are both open 24 hours.

The minimum chargeable period is 24 hours, so a car rented from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon is charged as two full days. Extending the rental means telling the rental agent in advance. Golf del Sur and Guía de Isora can be a pick-up but not a one-way drop-off, and every other pick-up point on the island can be chosen as a drop-off.

Where do I park and fill up in Costa Adeje?

Parking in Costa Adeje follows the standard Spanish colours: blue lines mark metered bays with a time limit, unmarked white bays are free, and yellow means no parking. Parking charges and parking fines during the rental are the renter's to pay.

The BP at Siam Mall is open 24 hours, the DISA at San Eugenio is open from 08:00 to 17:30, and the TGAS Trebol station stands at the La Caleta and Adeje junction. Return the car with the fuel level it had at pick-up; a lower level is charged at the rental company's rates, and a higher level is not compensated. A car returned so dirty that it cannot be inspected is washed at the renter's expense.

What is close to Santa Cruz before heading south?

Las Teresitas beach is fifteen minutes and ten kilometres from Santa Cruz, and Taganana, in Anaga, is twenty-five minutes and nineteen kilometres. The El Bailadero tunnel on the TF-134 is 375 metres long and unlit. The unpaved tracks in parts of Anaga are outside the paved-public-roads condition, and at the standard level of cover, damage to the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior is excluded.

Since 1 January 2026 every Spanish-registered vehicle, which includes every hire car on the island, must carry an approved, connected V-16 beacon instead of warning triangles, and the fine for not carrying one is eighty euros.
