What happens if something goes wrong during the rental?

If there is an insured event, notify the rental agent immediately and obtain a police report, unless otherwise agreed with the agent. Failure to meet these conditions cancels the insurance issued for the car and makes you fully responsible. The insurance is invalid for damage caused by intentional vandalism or by neglect. Standard insurance does not cover damage to the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen or the interior of the car. The cover levels offered for a car are listed on that car, each with its own price.

The contact number you give at booking must carry the correct country code. It must be reachable on the day before pick-up and throughout the rental. Service quality claims are not accepted if the renter could not be contacted by mobile phone or by messenger, meaning Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. The driver's minimum age and driving experience are listed on each car's page, and the rental agent may refuse the rental if the driver does not meet them.

Fuel, parking, fines and toll roads are the renter's responsibility, and Tenerife's motorways carry no tolls. A car returned so dirty that it cannot be inspected is washed at the renter's expense. Since 1 January 2026 every Spanish-registered vehicle must carry an approved, connected V-16 beacon, which replaced warning triangles and reports the car's position to the DGT. The fine for not carrying an approved beacon is eighty euros, and every hire car on the island is Spanish-registered.

Can I keep the car longer than I booked?

Yes, if you inform the rental agent in advance. The phone number given at booking, with the correct country code, must stay reachable throughout the rental, including any extension.

Each car's listing shows whether the booking has free cancellation. The deposit is also shown on each car before you book. How the remaining rental cost is paid, how the deposit is held and how long the refund takes are shown during booking and repeated in the rental voucher.

The minimum chargeable rental period is twenty-four hours: a car needed from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon is charged for two full days. Return the car with the same fuel level it had at pick-up. If the level is lower, you pay the difference at the rental company's rates, and a higher level is not compensated. A mileage limit, where a car has one, is shown on that car.

Taking a dog with you

The rental terms allow only small pets, kept in their travel carriers at all times. Article 18.1 of the General Traffic Regulations requires the driver to keep full freedom of movement, visibility and attention, so any animal in a car must be restrained. In a rental car, that restraint is the travel carrier required by the rental terms.

The fine for an animal loose in the back of a car is eighty to two hundred euros. The fine for an animal in the front passenger seat can reach five hundred euros, even inside a carrier.

What is actually within reach

Costa Adeje is fourteen minutes and nine kilometres from Playa Paraiso, and cars booked for delivery in Costa Adeje are brought to an address in that town. Playa de las Americas is fifteen minutes and thirteen kilometres, and Los Cristianos is twenty minutes and fifteen kilometres. Los Gigantes is twenty-seven minutes and twenty-two kilometres, and cars for the drive from Los Gigantes to Los Cristianos are also brought to an address in that town. Masca village is twenty-five minutes and twenty-seven kilometres.

The road into Masca is the TF-436, the only road in and out of the village. While a fire-risk alert is in force, the Cabildo de Tenerife runs access control on it from nine in the morning until four in the afternoon, with checkpoints at Las Lagunetas and Santiago del Teide, and vehicles driven by visitors for purely recreational purposes are refused. Residents, people travelling for work, public transport and emergency vehicles pass. The control is activated and deactivated with the risk, no end date has been announced, and bus line 355 serves Masca. Tour coaches in Teno are limited to ten metres and run one way, entering Masca from Buenavista on the TF-42 and leaving towards Santiago del Teide on the TF-436 and the TF-82. Hire cars may travel only on paved public roads.
